Mustang Men earn tough season sweep of Baptist Bible

CONWAY— Playing inside the friendly confines of A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse on Tuesday for the first time since Oct. 28, Central Baptist College men’s basketball hosted the Patriots of Baptist Bible College this evening. CBC (9-3) trailed at halftime for only the third time this season, but put up 50 points in the second half to complete the season sweep of BBC (3-8) 87-82.

Deshawn Corprew had 17 points to lead the way scoring while Jonas Carlisle and Sage Borbon both had 15 and Devin Foster chipped in with 13. Christian White and Kyle Harding were the co-leaders in rebounding with eight while the Mustangs were able to dominate in the paint, outscoring the Patriots 46-34 in that area and also outscoring them 19-9 off the bench.

GAME FLOW

CBC grabbed the lead early, saw the score get tied and then held the lead until the 10:57 mark in the first half when BBC tied the score again, this time at 15. The score would be tied again at 17 and the teams would trade the lead two more times with CBC leading until the 5:16 mark when BBC took a 27-26 lead with 5:12 left in the half. The teams traded the lead again three more times until the Patriots took the lead for the rest of the half with 3:55 left. The Mustangs would chip it down to two and keep their deficit at 39-37 at the break.

Two more ties and three more lead changes opened the second half until the Mustangs retook the lead with 17:13 left thanks to a three from Borbon that put CBC ahead 46-44. CBC would push the lead to as many as nine until BBC started fighting back again until they retook the lead, 72-71, with 4:29 left. An acrobatic layup by Foster with 4:14 left returned the lead to CBC for the final time and the Mustangs were able to close the game out at the free throw line.

The Mustangs will play their penultimate non-conference game of the season Friday night against Philander Smith. Tipoff from Mims Gym in Little Rock is scheduled for 7 p.m.
