Mike’s Place plans breakfast for worker battling leukemia

A benefit breakfast is planned 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug, 20, at Mike’s Place for Kaity Ison, a 21-year-old mother recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Kaity, an employee at Mike’s Place, has a 5-year-old son, Beau.

Diagnosed in July, Kaity is undergoing chemotherapy treatment but doctors have indicated that her best chance for survival is a bone marrow transplant.

Mike and Tonya Coats, owners of Mike’s Place in Downtown Conway, have planned the breakfast to help Kaity financially and have requested DKMS to set up inside the restaurant to give anyone the opportunity to swab their cheek and register for a bone marrow registry.

The breakfast is $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

DKMS creates awareness of blood cancer diseases and treatments while recruiting stem cell donors for the chance of saving patients’ lives.
