Mayor appoints new director of parks and rec

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Mayor Terry Hartwick recently appointed Randy Sandefur as Director of Parks and Recreation. His first day was June 1.

Sandefur, a lifelong resident of North Little Rock (NLR), graduated from Northeast High School in 1979. He was the head football coach at NLR High School for the past two years and has worked in education at the NLR school district for 40 years. Sandefur coached baseball, football, girls basketball and track and has been a part of three baseball state championships and one football state championship. 

“Randy is North Little Rock all the way! He has the leadership, passion and energy we need and will be an asset to our whole city,” Hartwick said.

Sandefur holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Monticello and a master’s degree in Secondary Educational Leadership from the University of Central Arkansas. He and his wife, Leslie Ballard Sandefur, have been married 32 years and have two sons.

“I love North Little Rock! I am excited and honored to be appointed by Mayor Hartwick to work with everyone to rebuild our park, and update our recreation centers and local parks,” Sandefur said.
