LONOKE: Receivers highlight '13 outlook

Conference: 2-4A
Coach: Doug Bost
’12 Record: 6-5 (4-3)

It’s difficult to put a finger on the Jackrabbits’ 2012 season. Lonoke started 2-3A play 1-3, but rolled off three straight wins to sneak into the playoffs with a fourth-place conference finish.

In Week 9, Lonoke hammered Stuttgart, 28-7. Stuttgart then went on to win the state championship in the 4A while the Jackrabbits lost in the first round. It was a season of extreme highs and abrupt lows.

Lonoke returns four starters on offense, but most of them will be in new positions this fall. Senior Kody Smith moves from receiver to quarterback. Junior Chandler Elmore will see time at running back after playing primarily defense in 2012. Seniors Blake Mack and Nick Watson lead a talented receiver corps in the Jackrabbits’ Spread offense. Watson, a 501 Football Team nominee, moved to receiver in 2012 after starting some at quarterback.

“Watson is a great blocker, good route runner and has great hands,” Coach Doug Bost said. “He played quarterback, wide receiver and special teams [last year], was a leader and always had a positive attitude and great work ethic.

“We expect him to be a great leader and to help the team any way possible by doing the little things right.”

Senior Parker Linton anchors Lonoke’s offensive line, and senior Jose Garcia returns to handle all kicking duties.

Junior Jacob Vandiver starts at noseguard. Junior Dylan Goforth returns to middle linebacker.
