Lonoke: Jackrabbits on the verge of 2-4A crown

Conference: 2-4A
Coach: Doug Bost
’13 Record: 9-3 (6-1)

The Lonoke Jackrabbits posted a season to remember in 2013, finishing 9-3 and getting to the second round of the playoffs.

“We had a great year,” Coach Doug Bost said. “We were the conference runner-up with a tough group of seniors. We finished games unlike years past, and that was a big difference for us. As a team we rushed for 4,000 yards.”

The Jackrabbits return five starters on offense and seven on defense in this season’s run to a 2-4A title.

Expected offensive starters include: wide receivers Stephon Carthron and Justin Meadows; running backs Mark Odom and Josh Coleman; fullback Dylan Goforth; quarterback Savonte Rountree; and offensive linemen Jacob Vandiver, Preston Jacks, Ethan Ellis, Kane Williams and Chance Bronson.

Coleman rushed for 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns last fall as a sophomore.

Defensively, expected starters include: defensive ends Dylan Goforth (all-state) and Lucas McKenzie; tackles Jacob Vandiver and Devan Mosely or Hunter Ellis; linebackers Chandler Elmore, Ethan Holland, Josh Coleman or Lance Dugger; safeties Trey Bevis and Justin Meadows; and cornerbacks Braylon Bryant and Caleb Bailey.

“I expect us to develop depth on the offensive line and be very physical,” Bost said. “Defensively, we expect to give up less than 20 points per game. Our strengths are running backs and linebackers and weaknesses are offensive and defensive lines.”
