Little Rock athletes receive Ohio Valley Conference honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Little Rock Track and Field athletes received Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Honors this week after their strong performance at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 12.  Matthew Tyeskie, Aaliyah Mathis, and Alexia Washington garnered the awards released today.

Tyeskie earned Co-Male Track Athlete of the Week as well as Freshman of the Week, his second honor this season. The Kilgore, Texas-native broke the school record he previously set in the 60-meter hurdles twice.  He recorded a time of 7.98 in the prelims to advance to the finals where he set his personal best at 7.95 and placed fifth.  He is currently ranked first in the OVC.

Mathis earned Female Field Athlete of the Week, her first this season, after placing first in the shot put with a personal best throw of 14.26m (46-9.5).  The junior from Humble, Texas is currently ranked first in the OVC and second in Little Rock records.

Washington earned her first Female Freshman of the Week honor after setting a new school record in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 12.31m (40-4.75).  The Rosenberg, Texas-native finished second in the event and is currently ranked second in the OVC and 36th in the NCAA.
