HOT SPRINGS: Trojans focus on improving

Classification: 5A South
Coach: Chris Vereen
Last Season: 1-9 (1-6)

Winners of just five games in three years the Hot Springs Trojans enter 2012 in search of their first winning season and playoff appearance since 2007.

Plagued by the injury bug a year ago, the Trojans return many players from season-ending injuries, including senior quarterback Zach Knapp (6-1, 180) from rotator cuff surgery, senior running back Rolando Johnson (6-0, 220) from brain surgery and sophomore receiver Deantre Campbell (5-11, 175) from surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Three players will compete for quarterback this year, including Knapp, senior Ryan Morrow (5-8, 160) and sophomore Anthony Goffigan (5-11, 180).

Senior Quin Coleman (5-9, 205) and Johnson should split carries in the backfield and contribute to the defense, too.

Senior Trevon Reedy (5-11, 170) leads the receiving corps, which also includes Campbell. Senior Harvey Barron (6-1, 230) contributes at tight end.

Morrow, an all-league cornerback in 2011, should serve as a leader on defense and mentor to promoted sophomore Antonio Loudermilk (6-0, 260) and juniors D.J. Collins (6-0, 240) and Robert Moss (6-2, 210).
