HOT SPRINGS LAKESIDE: Rams charging for three-peat

Conference: 5A South
Coach: Jared McBride
’16 Record: 6-5

The Lakeside Rams were winless through the non-conference schedule in 2016, but a 52-48 win on the road at Camden Fairview to open 5A South play keyed a 6-1 conference run.

“We had a slow start, but we finished strong with a conference championship,” Coach Jared McBride said.

Dual-threat quarterback Taylor Gillham gained experience last fall and takes over permanently in 2017. The Rams return 2,200 rushing yards worth of experience in seniors Dupree Swanson (1,500 yards) and Michael James (800 yards). Juniors Richard Gaston and Keelan Fleming and senior David Regenhardt lead the receivers. Seniors Drew Bell and Etai Grenman and juniors Logan Tipton, Jonah Nester and Adrian Masias start on the offensive line.

Grenman, senior Logan Garner and junior Landon Gray lead up front on the defensive line. Senior Alex Stewart returns as a defensive leader at linebacker. Senior Brandon Chambers and Logan Gower return in the secondary at corner and safety, respectively.

“We have several good, young offensive lineman,” McBride said. “Defense will replace a lot of players. We have a good quarterback in Taylor Gillham, good running backs and talented young players.”
