Harlem Gospel Choir to perform at UCA

UCA Public Appearances will welcome the Harlem Gospel Choir to the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The Harlem Gospel Choir sings contemporary gospel with a hint of jazz and blues. The UCA performance, sponsored by Power92 Jams, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is a part of the university’s Black History Month celebration.

“This performance will be filled with uplifting vocalists who will truly stir the soul,” said Amanda Horton, director of UCA Public Appearances. “The members are some of the finest singers and musicians from Harlem’s black churches and the New York/Tri-State area.”

The Harlem Gospel Choir tours worldwide and has performed with stars such as Bono, Diana Ross, The Gorillaz, Andre Rieu, Damon Albarn and Pharrell Williams. The choir has also performed for President Barack Obama as well as two former presidents.

“The Harlem Gospel Choir is so incredibly talented, it will be hard for our audience to stay seated,” said Ashley Love, director of finance and marketing for UCA Public Appearances. “They’re an infectious group with soulful spins on classic gospel music. This will be a great evening for the entire family — from great-grandparents to children, everyone will leave with goose bumps.”

Horton said the Harlem Gospel Choir had shared its message of love and inspiration with hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

“Through its dynamic performances, the choir strives to create a better understanding of the African-American culture and their inspirational music,” she said. “As the website says, the theme of every performance is ‘bringing people and nations together and giving something back.’”
