HARDING ACADEMY: Wildcats set to repeat as 2-3A champs

While the coach pronounced 2009 “a great year,” he said the Wildcats would be tested early this time with a tough non-conference schedule that includes Fountain Lake again in the season opener, Class 4A Heber Springs and a trip to Des Arc.

Seth Keese (5-11, 185) returns for his senior season at quarterback. As a junior, he completed 167 of 263 passes (64 percent) for 2,480 yards and 22 touchdowns with just seven interceptions.  He also rushed 123 times for 909 yards and 19 TDs. His experience will be one of the team strengths, Mote said.

Another returning starter expected to do big things is senior Ben Lecrone (5-10, 150). Lecrone, a versatile player listed at running back, wide receiver and linebacker, was the team’s second-leading rusher last year after Keese with 784 yards and 12 touchdowns on 119 carries. He also caught 17 passes for 195 yards and one TD. He was also the leading kick returner with 314 yards and two touchdowns off 10 returns.

The Wildcats will run the Spread offense and a 3-4 defense.

Mote listed other starters as Corey Guymon (6-3, 158), a senior wide receiver/defensive back; Austin Lowery (5-11, 180), a senior offensive lineman and linebacker; Jake Wells (5-11, 200), a junior offensive and defensive lineman; Seth Ransom (6-0, 166), a junior offensive lineman and linebacker; and Jace Davis (6-1, 190), a junior offensive lineman/linebacker, with senior Peyton Pugh (6-0, 185) and junior Jay Bona expected to figure in the starting lineup as well.
