Gum sinks hole-in-one

Tyler Gum sunk a shot on Sept. 3 that he won’t soon forget.

“I couldn’t believe it!” Gum said.

Gum, a sophomore at Conway Christian, landed a hole-in-one on Hole 4 at the Links in Conway. The 16-year-old athlete is only in his first year of golf at Conway Christian — he also plays basketball and tennis — and qualified for the 2A state golf tournament.

Now he has a new accomplishment to add to his golf resume.

Gum was cautious in his approach on the hole, and his trepidation paid off.

“The hole is downhill and surrounded by water,” Gum said.

Despite the rarity of the feat, Gum is confident that it won’t be his last hole-in-one.

“If I keep practicing and putting the time in, I believe that opportunity could present itself again,” he said.

After a shot like that, most golfers are bound for a great round, but Gum wasn’t so lucky.

“I did not get to finish the course,” he said. “There was a tournament starting.”

It was just as well to end things on a high note!

Tyler is a son of Shenna and Allen Gum.
