Glen Rose: Beavers set sights on return to War Memorial

Conference: 5-3A
Coach: Mark Kehner
’13 Record: 13-1 (7-0)

The Glen Rose Beavers posted one of their most impressive seasons ever in 2013, dominating the 5-3A with a perfect conference record. The Beavers made it all the way to War Memorial for the second time this decade, but they fell short again, falling 42-19 to 3A champion Charleston.

The Beavers will have a new face at quarterback with senior Chase Haynes, but the rest of the backfield is experienced and loaded — senior all-state running back Carlos Burton and senior fullback Alex Coney. Burton rushed for more than 2,400 yards and 39 touchdowns last fall.

Senior Joe Marsischky leads the receiving corps, and a bevy of seniors solidify the offensive line — Justin Salazar, Josh Paul, Alec Edwards, Blaine Tuggle and Chris Church.

Edwards, Paul and Salazar also see time on the defensive line, along with senior Austin Dyer at tackle. Senior Cody Williamson provides depth on the defensive line.

Coney and Haynes will be a force in the linebacker corps, and Marsischky will be asked to lead the secondary at cornerback.
