Funky Frugal: Good golly Miss Molly

by Tanner Cangelosi

I have a cousin whom I just adore. Her name is Molly. She is a wonderful basketball player and even better person.

With high school graduation around the corner, I wanted to do something special for her, so a room redo was in order!

While Molly was at school, I sneaked into her room. It was a little disheveled. She had many wonderful furniture pieces and things to display, but they had been hidden.

One of my greatest joys is taking things people already have and painting or re-arranging them to give them new life.

So I began by re-arranging some furniture pieces and grouping like objects, such as trophies and stuffed animals. After doing a light cleaning, I began to paint on her grey walls.

Paint is an easy and cheap way to bring a room together and make a mistake look like it was intentional. I challenge you to take a paintbrush to your walls; with a little creativity you might be surprised how good you are! You can always paint over it if you don’t like it.

With her name above her bed, verses on her walls, a basketball silhouette and polka dots adorning an empty space, her walls had new spunk in just a few hours. This also brought out the colors of her bedding into her whole room.

This room redo cost a total of $8 because Sweet Molly already had the key pieces.

In your next remodel consider using paint to spruce up a room quickly and cost-effectively!
