Friday night sunsets priceless

by Mike Kemp

My wife Crystal loves sunsets.

She loves the sky in general – days with big, puffy clouds or mornings where the sun breaks the horizon with explosions of color – but she really enjoys sunsets. This summer, she proposed an evening where we went to Petit Jean State Park to enjoy a sunset together. She hinted that I could bring a camera, too.

What resulted was a standing date for every Friday evening through the rest of the summer, finding locations around Conway to view and photograph sunsets.

Most were easily found, but others took some research and Google maps to search out. While most were in the 501 area code, our last official outing for the summer took the family to Mount Nebo State Park to view the end of day from Sunset Point. We were instead treated to a large thunderstorm that produced more lightning than golden hues as the day ended.

It was a fun project that not only resulted in a collection of photos but also an opportunity for time spent together.
