Free depression screenings

Unity Health and the Dr. Robert E. Elliott Foundation will offer free, anonymous depression screenings Thursday, Oct. 8, as a part of National Depression Screening Day.

Screenings will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Unity Health’s White County Medical Center campus in Searcy and on the Harris Medical Center campus in Newport. Screenings will include written evaluations, access to a licensed professional counselor and referrals.

National Depression Screening Day is held annually to create awareness for depression, manic-depression and anxiety, and to educate the public about the symptoms and effective treatments. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, in 2013 an estimated 15.7 million U.S. adults ages 18 and older had at least one major depressive episode.
