Free concert to be performed by talented musicians

The group was founded in 2010 by church member Pat Qualls of Conway, formerly of Jonesboro, who directed the concerts until she moved to Conway in 2019. Julia Lansford, a retired longtime professor of voice at Arkansas State University, now directs the six-member group. Also performing with the musicians will be an additional singer.

“It has been my vision since moving to Conway to bring these very special musicians to Conway to showcase their talents and love of performing,” Qualls said. “These concerts had positive impacts on the community of special-needs musicians and artists whose sense of belonging and self-confidence has transformed them. Their social and verbal skills increased to high levels never before achieved. People with disabilities count, and they impact our lives in positive ways.”

The singers include Darren Lane, Beau Doty, Jonathan Lansford, Pierce Craig, Hunter Rogers and Sara Silas, all from the Julia Lansford Special Needs Vocal Studio. Performances will include solos, as well as duets, trios and sextets. Joining them will be singer Joey Havdala and Mitchell Griggs, Native American flute player.

Qualls is a retired music educator, professional harpist, former Arkansas Public Service commissioner and former mayor of Lake City. She also is a 2023 inductee to the Arkansas Women’s Hall of Fame.
