The Fountain Lake Cobras faced hard times in 2016, ending with a 2-8 record and falling short of the playoffs. J.D. Plumlee takes over as coach for the Cobras, and with 19 starters back, Fountain Lake could prove formidable this fall.

Senior Stephen Turner saw some starting time last fall at quarterback. Seniors Tanner Tedford and Dillon Horton lead the offensive backfield. Senior Parion Johnson earned all-conference honors last fall and leads the receivers. Senior Cade Dodge is back at tight end. Seniors James Mullen, Alex Bray, Dillon Tillery, Ben Chaney and Trevor Sutterfield and juniors Colson Simpson, Skyler Messmann and Ryan Lavalle fill out and rotate on the offensive line.

Senior Justin Lee is a three-year starter on the defensive line at tackle. Brey, Lavalle, Chaney, Sutterfield and Mullen rotate on the defensive line. Simpson, junior Joe Murphey, Horton and Andrew Roberson start at linebacker. Parion Johnson, Ahman Johnson, Andrew Johnson and junior William Rigsby project as starters in the secondary.
