Five-Oh-Ones to Watch 2026: Tyler Thomas Rowan

By Mark Oliver

Tyler Thomas Rowan is a young man who understands the impact that hard work can have on his school and his community. A three-sport athlete at Vilonia Junior High School, the freshman is focused not only on taking the Eagles to new heights athletically, but also on improving the lives of those around him.

“Being a leader means always having a good attitude, no matter what,” he said. “Leaders are hardworking, humble and willing to be helpers and teammates. Most importantly, leaders remember that someone is always watching, so be someone worth watching.”

From volunteering with Vilonia’s PeeWee athletics program to coaching fifth-grade football and assisting with his younger brother’s basketball squad, Tyler takes pride in giving back in ways that reflect both his faith and his character.

“My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, which states, ‘I can do all things through Him who strengthens me,’” he said. “I want to be known as a Christian athlete who honors God in everything I do.”

In the classroom, Tyler earns straight A’s, participates in the school’s EAST program, and tutors classmates in math.

“I am proud to have earned straight A’s for my entire academic career and have even been named Student of the Year,” he said. “I want others to know that you can be both athletic and smart.”

“Tyler is very respectful of his teachers and peers,” Vilonia science teacher Tambrey Kinley said. “He’s organized, works well with others and always tries to include everyone. He truly cares about others.”

For the freshman, these efforts aren’t for the spotlight or clout, they’re simply about doing the right thing, and his service has not gone unnoticed.

“Tyler takes pride in everything he does,” Vilonia assistant baseball coach David Smith said. “He refuses to settle for second best and elevates those around him to that same standard.”

“Tyler is a hard-working, disciplined young man whom you can count on, day in and day out,” Vilonia head softball coach Kevin Sullivan said. “He’s a team-first guy who will always work and play as hard as he can and do it in a manner that makes everyone proud to be associated with him.”

Alongside his siblings, Lynnlee, Gunnar and Christian, Tyler has spent the past five years calling Vilonia home. His parents, Jason and Jenny, have instilled in him the values of hard work and service, which he carries into every practice, classroom and volunteer opportunity.

“My dad has always been my hero,” he said. “He is a role model of hard work and always makes time to help me improve at whatever I am doing. I’m also, unapologetically, a mama’s boy. I want to make them both proud.”

In the summer, Tyler can be found teaching youth swimming lessons and volunteering at Vacation Bible School at Friendship Baptist Church in Conway. Outside of school and community service, he embraces the competitive spirit of his family.

“From pickleball and Baggo to carving pumpkins or decorating gingerbread houses, everything in our house turns into a family-friendly competition,” Tyler said. “I also enjoy fishing, riding four-wheelers and hunting at my Pappy’s farm.”

His combination of humility and service make him not only a standout student-athlete, but also a leader whose example is shaping the next generation of youth in Vilonia and beyond.

“Tyler is the type of young man every coach wants on his team,” Vilonia assistant football coach Tommy Stephens said. “Others follow his lead because he is willing to do whatever it takes to be successful.”
