ENGLAND: Lions young and formidable in the 5-2A

Conference: 5-2A
Coach: Terry Farmer
’14 Record: 8-3 (5-2)

The England Lions posted their best season yet under Coach Terry Farmer, finishing 8-3 overall and second in the 5-2A. With starters returning at 18 different positions, the Lions will be in the hunt at the top of their conference.

Expected starters on offense include junior Brayden Brazeal (quarterback), junior Malik Coleman (running back), senior Zach Montgomery (fullback), senior Xavier Iverson (receiver), junior Mark Westbrook (receiver), junior BJ Thompson (tight end), sophomore Cody Ballard (right tackle), junior Trey Hobson (right guard), junior Brock Miller (center), junior Benny Ballard (left guard) and junior Nigel Scaife (left tackle).

Benny Ballard, Coleman and Montgomery will also start on the defensive line, along with seniors Mario Zermeno and Rawsay Laster. Juniors Spencer Apel and Simeon Brooks lead the way at linebacker. Westbrook, Thompson, Iverson and sophomore Darrius Clarkson will start in the secondary.

“Our strengths are our 18 returning starters,” Farmer said. “Our weakness is lack of depth on the offensive and defensive lines. We hope to be fighting for the 5-2A championship.”
