13 Jan 2013 DBS seeks donations for charity ball

Conway members of the Delta Beta Sigma sorority are seeking contributions for its annual charity ball which this year benefits the “Make A Wish Foundation.”
The event – “A Bow Tie Affair – will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock. The event will begin with the traditional grand march of the DBS members and their dates followed by the seniors’ father/daughter dance.
Instead of dates buying corsages or boutonnieres, DBS members purchase a $10 charity ribbon for their dates to wear as a donation to Make a Wish, the national charity for DBS.
According to DBS president Sydnie Ross, this is the third year that the group has raised money for charity at its winter formal event. Last year’s event raised $11,000.
Members are also seeking donations from businesses and others in the community. Those who donate $100 or more will be recognized as a “Diamond Donor” at the charity ball.
“Make a Wish Foundation” raises money to grant wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Most of these children go through long and painful treatments to treat their illness. Their wishes, which in some could be a trip to Walt Disney World, give the children a time of joy and happiness that they so desperately need in their life.
In addition to sisterhood and social activities planned every month, DBS members regularly raise money and/or volunteer to help non-profit groups, like the American Cancer Society. Members have volunteered at Dazzle Daze and the Soaring Wings Half Marathon.
“Our main thing is charity,” said Sydnie.
DBS has 103 members representing, Conway High, St. Joseph and one homeschooled student.
