Crow Group wins Engineering Excellence Award for Pinecrest Project

MORRILTON – The Crow Group design team recently earned an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arkansas. The team was acknowledged during a gala at the governor’s mansion Aug. 26.

The award was for Crow Group’s work on the Green Bay Packaging Pinecrest Lumber Mill Dry Kiln #3 from 2018-2019. The team, led by design professionals David Watkins and John Doyle, was commended in the category of Industrial & Manufacturing Processes/Facilities.

Design of this project began in April 2018 and was completed in May 2019, two months prior to the estimated completion date. Crow achieved minimal impact to the daily operations of the mill and no recordable accidents or injuries. With the installation of the new dry kiln, the Pinecrest mill is now able to dry up to an additional 120 million board feet of lumber annually.

The ACEC Arkansas Engineering Excellence Awards recognize Arkansas engineering projects that demonstrate a high degree of achievement, value and ingenuity. Judged by a panel of industry professionals from around the state, projects were evaluated based on uniqueness, future value to the engineering profession, sustainable considerations, and successful fulfillment of the client’s needs.

Watkins and Doyle attended the awards dinner to accept the prestigious award along with Crow Group President Brian Rohlman and Vice President Greg Smith. Watkins acted as a Project Manager for the job. “My favorite part of the project was the talented team that was put together to deliver a successful project,” Watkins said. “It required significant contributions from an outstanding team of designers, engineers, and subcontractors, as well as the owner. Building strong relationships is what it’s all about.”
