Conway teacher's makeover experience 'awesome'

by Sonja J. Keith

Conway schoolteacher Jamille Rogers recently wrapped up her makeover, dropping inches, pounds and body fat.

“The 12-week program was awesome,” Rogers said. “I can’t believe how much progress we made in such little time. I say ‘we’ because it was a team effort. Overall I feel great! I feel more comfortable in my clothes, my passion for teaching is now back with high-energy and I’m motivated to share the importance of healthy choices and wellness with others.”

Rogers, the library media specialist at Marguerite Vann Elementary School, was the winner in a drawing by Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center at the annual Conway Teachers Breakfast. She won a 12-week fitness package that included a one hour assessment, 24 30-minute personal training sessions with Gina Tusson, a metabolic test and six nutrition consults with Kellie Dye, R.D.L.D.

“Not only did I lose weight, inches and go down two dress sizes, but I got so much out of the experience,” Rogers said. “Training with Gina provided me with one-on-one opportunities to learn exercise routines that worked just for me.

“Kellie was awesome with helping me explore new foods that were high in fiber and helped me understand the importance of good food selection. I also had the opportunity to build new relationships with not only with Gina, Kellie and the fitness staff, but also with CRHFC director Rance Bryant. Everyone was so encouraging and supportive.”

Rogers has this advice for others – “you’re worth it.” She also suggests a personal trainer for those who need to get in shape. “Then as you become comfortable with the exercise, go ahead and have a few nutrition sessions with Kellie,” she said. “This will help you understand the importance of wellness and how it affects your entire life. I don’t think I would have ever been able to do this on my own and definitely not in 12 weeks.”

Rogers expressed her appreciation to those involved in the makeover – Amanda Castillo and the fitness center “for awarding such an awesome life-changing” prize; Abby King at HipSway for clothing; Yasha Barnes at Flava Salon for a new hairstyle; and 501 LIFE for covering the makeover process.

“Conway Regional Health and Fitness has so much to offer,” Rogers said. “Here in Conway, we are building healthy communities and CRHFC is laying the foundation.  For 2013 –  make this the year of the ‘New You!’”
