11 May Conway Regional offers youth swimming lessons
Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center will offer swim lessons for children 4 years old and older from Monday, May 16, through Wednesday, June 8 (excluding Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day; make-up day offered on Friday, June 3).
Lessons are two 45-minute classes per week at 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. or 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
Members of CRHFC are charged $60 per session. It is $80 for non-members. The deadline to register is Friday, May 13.
Level 1: Learning water safety skills, basic swimming strokes, floating, submerging head and treading water. Must be 4 years or older.
Level 2: Introduces independence in the water, buoyancy, breathing and motion. Also educates children on water safety and pool rules. Must be 4 years or older, able to bob three times, glide on front at least two body lengths, roll to a back float for 3 seconds and recover to a vertical position.
Level 3: Swimming independently, child will continue in stroke refinement, as well as learning more advanced swimming strokes and flip turns. Must be 4 years or older, able to glide on front and back for at least two body lengths, roll over, float for 5 seconds, swim using front crawl for three body lengths, roll to back, float for 5 seconds, roll to front then continue swimming on front for three body lengths.
The fitness center will host offer baby and toddler swim lessons for ages 6 months to 4 years old and their parents.
Parents will be in the water with their children as they are guided through pre-swimming fundamentals.
There will be eight Saturday classes from May 14 – July 16 (excluding May 28 and July 2 for holidays). Babies ages 6 to 18 months old will have class at 10 a.m. and must wear swim diapers. Toddlers ages 18 months to 4 years old will have class at 10:45 a.m.
Swim lessons cost $60 for CRHFC members and $80 for non-members. The classes will be limited to 10 pairs each and pre-registration is required.
