Conway BPW celebrates 75th anniversary

The Conway Business & Professional Women’s (BPW) organization will celebrate its 75th anniversary during National Business Women’s Week (Oct. 19-25).

A come and go celebration reception will be held at Art on the Green, 1101 Bob Courtway Drive, Suite 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23.

The group will be awarding its Jane Lagasse $500 scholarship to a non-traditional applicant during the reception.

In 1939, Claudia Kuykendall, a young Conway woman, followed her job to Fort Smith where she was introduced to Fort Smith BPW.  She was so excited about its goals and projected programs that she passed this excitement on to her sister, Ivah, who believed such an organization would be good for Conway.

Conway BPW was chartered on April 18, 1939.

Over the years, Conway BPW has enjoyed growth that peaked in the 1980s to more than 100 members. After 75 years, Conway BPW is still a vibrant, viable and relevant organization for motivating, empowering and encouraging the advancement of women and a source to make a difference for future women.

Conway BPW is a member of the Arkansas Business & Professional Women (AR/BPW), whose goal is to promote participation in legislation, equity and economic self-sufficiency for America’s working women. The group’s objectives include elevating the standards of women in business and extending opportunities to business and professional women through education.

All Conway and area Business and Professional Women are invited to attend the 75th Celebration Reception.  For more information, call Conway BPW President Kristina Croslin at 501.514.5215.
