Conway, 501 teams advancing to the playoffs

by Levi Gilbert

Week 10 was a special time for 35 football teams in the 501. The final week of the season was a crowning for some and a night of transition for all as the regular season came to an end.

On the eve of the playoffs, the Conway Wampus Cats and Bryant Hornets faced off with the 7A Central title up for grabs. Conway entered 9-0, and Bryant was also undefeated at 8-0-1.

Conway built an early lead, taking a 17-0 command of the game heading into halftime. The Wampus Cats rode the running game in the second half to walk away with a 24-10 final score, the 7A Central crown and a first-round bye in the playoff.

Kevin Chamorro capped off a monster regular season with 244 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Junior Mark Odom had two scores on the ground and 49 rushing yards total.

Kameron Laird and Nick Starr led the defense each with seven total tackles. Laird also had a sack. Hunter Scott had five tackles and one sack. The Conway defense held Bryant to only 172 yards of total offense.

Bryant will play host to Springdale Har-Ber this Friday, while Conway earned a bye and will await the winner of the
