Community Connections kicks off programs for kids with special needs

Community Connections is kicking off its spring extra-curricular programs this month in Conway, Little Rock and Russellville for children with special needs and their families.

The programs are free of charge and will include theatre, music, art, soccer, martial arts, basketball and an educational support workshop.

“Community Connections programs are free of charge so we welcome families to come and expose their child to an activity and see if it clicks! We love offering a safe, encouraging, judgment-free environment for children to be exposed to sports and the arts,” said Courtney Leach, executive director of Community Connections.

The full program schedule is available at communityconnectionsar.org/springprograms.

Families may register for any of the programs by visiting communityconnectionsar.org/services-programs.

Community volunteers will serve as the children’s buddies in both the sports and arts programs. All activities will offer the opportunity for children to have fun and gain self-esteem, physical activity and teamwork.

When Community Connections launched its extracurricular activities in 2007, 30 children joined its ACTS Jr. theatre program in Conway. Today, it serves more than 12 counties through 10 different programs in Little Rock, Conway and Russellville. In 2015 alone, more than 500 children participated in Community Connection’s programs.

Community Connections is a non-profit organization in Central Arkansas dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities and their families.
