CCS boys basketball team wins conference opener

The Conway Christian School Senior High Boys Basketball team recently opened up the 2012-2013 conference season with a road trip to Bigelow.

The Eagles were able to hold on to an 11 point halftime lead and win the conference opener 59-50.

Senior Andrew Dather led CCS with 17 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Fellow senior Tanner Stevenson scored 16 points, had two rebounds and one steal to help pace the Eagles. Sophomore John Nekonchuk added nine points, eight rebounds and one steal. Brandon Helms added seven points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Mark Belvardi had five points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Luke Beckman had two points, three rebounds and five steals.

“Overall, I’m pleased with the way our kids played our first conference game on the road against a well-coached team; it was a good win for us, one in which I believe we can build off of,” said CCS coach Brian Narretto.

The Eagles (4-5, 1-0) will travel to play Abundant Life on Thursday, Dec. 20, in a non-conference match-up before their conference schedule gets fully under way at home against Hector on Friday, Jan. 4.
