Camp Aldersgate celebrates 40th Anniversary of Fish Fry Fundraiser

LITTLE ROCK — Camp Aldersgate invites the community to celebrate 40 years of food, family and fun at its annual Fish Fry event set for Sunday, Oct. 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Families can expect a variety of activities for all ages including carousel rides, a petting zoo, yard games, face painting and the iconic fishing derby. Of course, one of the main attractions will be the food. Fish will be freshly fried by volunteers and accompanied with hush puppies, coleslaw and fries.

Bringing the community together for four decades and spreading awareness of Camp Aldersgate’s mission and services is an important part of this event. “I am honored to chair this event for the second time and especially so in our 40th year. Helping share the impact of Camp Aldersgate within our community is so important and knowing the financial impact this event can have for our campers is what inspires me!” said Cathy Engelkes, Event Chair.

One way Aldersgate showcases its mission is by honoring a camper family each year at Fish Fry. Breanna (mom), and her sons, Carter (12) and Will (8), are the 40th annual honorees.

“Camp Aldersgate is something I never knew my sons or I would need … I never knew if summer camp would be in the cards for Carter and his extra chromosome. Knowing he has opportunities like Camp Aldersgate, where he can have the same independence as his peers, is something that can’t be put into words,” said McMillen.

This year, Aldersgate hopes to raise $100,000 through Fish Fry – the biggest fundraising goal yet for the event. All proceeds benefit Camp Aldersgate’s mission of providing life-changing experiences for individuals with special needs. Aldersgate’s programs are made possible for campers like Carter and Will thanks to the generosity of its supporters and donors.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the event for $20 (individual tickets) or $65 (family pack for four). Kids under six years old eat for free. For those looking to grab their fish to-go, a drive-thru option will be available at CHI St. Vincent on Kanis Rd.
