CAFTA awards celebration and reception to be held April 23

The Conway Alliance for the Arts (CAFTA) awards celebration and reception will be 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, , in the Trieschmann Fine Arts Building at Hendrix College.

The awards recognize contributions to the arts in Conway.

Following a recent board meeting of the Conway Alliance for the Arts (CAFTA), it was announced that Rollin Potter, formerly dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University of Central Arkansas, will be being recognized through the naming a special CAFTA award.

According to CAFTA board chair Dr. Gayle Seymour, “Rollin Potter was more than a patron of the arts, he was an arts activist, serving as a leader and driver in the creation of significant arts events and programs in Conway, including the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre Festival and ArtsFest. He was also the progenitor of the Conway Alliance for the Arts.

The CAFTA board wanted to recognize and honor his many contributions to the arts in Conway and so we will be awarding, for the first time, The Rollin R. Potter Outstanding Arts Patron Award to a worthy recipient.”

Other awards given include Outstanding Arts Educator; Outstanding Student Achievement; Outstanding Individual Artist Achievement; and a special Mayor’s Award for Community Advocate for the Arts. The CAFTA Board will recognize an individual with a Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award during the ceremony.

The public is invited to attend the artist awards ceremony, free of charge, which will include performances by musical, dance and literary artists. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at 8 p.m. Hendrix College’s Culinary Club will prepare and serve hors d’oeuvres and other refreshments at the reception.
