CAC: Mustangs riding success into fall

Conference: 2-4A
Coach: Tommy Shoemaker
’14 Record: 6-5 (4-3)

The Central Arkansas Christian Mustangs made successful strides in 2014, wining just enough games in the 2-4A to find themselves in the playoffs.

“We were glad to get some playoff experience for our young squad,” Coach Tommy Shoemaker said. “We defeated Stuttgart in Week 10 to decide the playoff bid. Overall, it was a good season on which we hope to build this season.”

Six starters return on offense. Projected starters include: quarterback Noah Evans; running back Braylon Harris (who rushed for 1,500 yards last fall); receivers Cade Huckaby, Josh Johnson, Hunter Corbell and Tanner Weber; and offensive linemen Rhett Sheperd, Austin Holley, Caden Miller, Jordan Harris and Brent Johnston.

Seven starters return on defense. Projected starters include: defensive linemen Caden Miller, Dalton Boyles and Jon Andrews; linebackers Braylon Harris, Tanner Weber, Landon Stevenson and Cam Glaze; and defensive backs Grant Wood, Josh Johnson, Hunter Corbell and Cade Huckaby.

“Offense should be more explosive and more balanced,” Shoemaker said. “Defense will have a more attacking style. Conference race should be a very tight race. Many teams could win it.”
