CAC: Mustangs ready for 2-4A title run

Conference: 2-4A
Coach: Tommy Shoemaker
’15 Record: 11-2

The Central Arkansas Christian Mustangs outperformed expectations in 2015, winning 11 games en route to a 2-4A championship and a trip to the 4A quarterfinals. With seven starters back on each side, expectations are high for the Mustangs entering the fall.

Senior Noah Evans returns at quarterback after earning all-conference last fall. Junior Kamryn Vick is back at running back after rushing for more than 300 yards as a sophomore. Seniors Josh Johnson, Hunter Corbell, Grant Wood and Cade Huckaby lead a talented and experienced receiving corps in the Mustangs’ Spread offense. Starting offensive linemen will be senior Andrew Cook; juniors Jackson Whatley, Austin Holley and Reese Butler; and sophomore Chris Rawlins.

Cook, sophomore Kyvin Carroll and senior Dalton Boyles start on the defensive line in CAC’s base 3-4 defense. Corbell and seniors Tanner Weber, Zane Harris and Cam Glaze start at linebacker. Wood, Johnson, Huckaby and senior Zac Otwell defend the secondary.

“We expect to be very explosive offensively and solid defensively,” said Coach Tommy Shoemaker. “Our weakness is lack of experience and depth on the offensive and defensive lines. Our senior class and the returning skill players are our strengths. We expect to repeat as conference champions. Helena and Stuttgart will field quality teams, and Lonoke is always talented.”
