Cabot School District announces summer plans

Several fun and educational activities are planned this summer for Cabot schoolchildren.

The Cabot School District is hosting a summer library program promoting reading and having fun called “Hot Spots.”

It will take place at every elementary school from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 10, 17, 24 and 31. At the final session, there will be a party celebrating summer reading. The kids and families that attend have story time, sing songs together and recite and create poems.

The district is also planning a “Reading Road Trip.” A “reading bus,” a retired school bus wrapped for a new look and filled with about 20,000 books, will travel through the Cabot community this summer stopping at various locations for anyone to come read books, check them out, etc.

“We have a schedule of all the stops the bus will make and we have many more books in storage when we run low on inventory,” said Amanda Elizandro, district communications coordinator. “This is something really cool and our students seem very excited and can’t wait to partake in it this summer.”

The first day/first stop will be Monday, June 4. The schedule:

Magness Creek Zone: Mondays, June 4, June 18, July 9, July 23.

  • 12:20-1:05 p.m. – Magness Creek Elementary.

Also this summer, Ward Central and Westside Elementary will serve free lunches to students and adults from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday, June 4, to Friday, July 27 (excluding July 4).

Each meal that is served to a person 18 or under is reimbursable through the Department of Human Services. A “Share our Strengths” grant helps cover the costs of meals that are not reimbursed by DHS.
