Bismarck: Lions roaring back from disappointing '13 campaign

Conference: 5-3A
Coach: Jeff McBride
’13 Record: 2-8 (2-5)

The Bismarck Lions only won two games in 2013, but it was much improvement over 2012 when they went winless.

The Lions will start young at quarterback with sophomore Austin Simms. Zack Roberts provides experience in the backfield. The all-conference junior returns at running back. Senior Chance Collins also returns at running back, and junior Ryan Sutton rounds out the backfield at fullback.

Two seniors lead the way in the receiving corps — Dakota Godwin and Nathan Lau. Experienced upperclassmen fill out the offensive line: senior Chandler Williams (tackle), junior Dalton Yarbrough (guard), junior John Boothe (center), senior Chase Emerson (guard) and senior Dakota Emerson (tackle).

Dakota Emerson also sees time on the defensive line. Junior Evan Morgan returns at noseguard. Junior Jacob Jackson, senior Zach Lambert and junior end Joseph Chancellor round out the defensive line. Chase Emerson, junior Cole McSwain, senior Austin Phillips lead a deep linebacker corps.

Godwin and Collins lead the way in the secondary.
