Betty Martin honored with scholarship

The family of Betty T. "Nanga" Martin recently hosted a community-wide birthday party to celebrate her 90th birthday. At the party Martin received a surprise when it was announced that the Martin Family has donated $10,000 to establish a single parent scholarship in her honor.

Martin was a public school teacher for 50 years and raised her son, Tom, as a single parent. The Martin Family has donated $10,000 to the White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund for the purpose of awarding a Betty T. "Nanga" Martin Scholarship for each of the next 10 year to students pursuing a degree in education.

The White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund, Inc. awards scholarships to single parents of minor children who are pursuing a post-secondary education for the purpose of gaining skilled employment. The mission of WCSPSF, Inc. is to provide hope and change lives through education.
