Benefit lunch, T-shirt to help Murphy Family

Conway bankers and others in the community are rallying to show support for the Pat Murphy Family following his recent cancer diagnosis. Several events are planned, including a lunch fundraiser on Friday, March 20, in Downtown Conway.

“I’m so thrilled to be able to lead the charge for a fundraiser for the Murphy Family,” said Lori Melton. “Pat is one those ‘to know him is to love him’ guys. Folks may not realize there were only two banks in town 30 years ago. If you are a longtime banker, you have probably worked with more than half of the other bankers in town at some point in your career.

“I had the idea to pull all the bankers together in support of our friend and Bankers United was born. It has been so inspiring to see 13 banks come together in unity to support one of our own. I also think it’s good for the community to see we really are all friends as well as competitors.”

The Murphy Family has been a part of Conway for many years. Pat’s father, the late Guy Murphy, has been considered by many to be one of the most influential citizens of Faulkner County. He worked for the Conway Chamber of Commerce for 40 years and was a motivating force behind the building of the bridge over the Arkansas River at Toad Suck. In addition, he had a hand in the establishment of the Arkansas Educational Television Network, the Conway Industrial Park, the Cadron Settlement Park and the Conway Human Development Center.

Pat was a longtime banker in Conway before joining Conway Wealth Management. He and his wife, Teri, have two children, Luke and Lauren.

Money raised will be used to help offset medical expenses.

Banks participating in the lunch are First Community Bank, First Service Bank, First Security Bank, Arvest, Bank OZK, Centennial, First Arkansas Bank and Trust, Regions, Simmons, Bancorp South, Chambers, US Bank and Malvern National Bank.

Bankers will be grilling near the fountain on Oak Street in downtown, with seating available at the nearby Conway Area Chamber of Commerce.

The cost is $10 and includes a hamburger, hot dog, baked beans, chips and a drink.

Organizers will be taking preorders. A website has been set up – bankersunited.org – where orders can be placed and volunteers can sign up.

In addition to the lunch, a special T-shirt has been designed, with 100 percent of the purchase price to be given to the family.

The shirt is designed with the slogan #MURFSTRONG.

Adult styles are available in stone blue short sleeve ($28), olive long sleeve ($30) and dark heather gray sweatshirt ($35). There is an additional cost for 2X ($2), 3X ($3) and 4X ($4).

A youth style shirt is available in royal blue/short sleeve ($20).

The deadline to order is Wednesday, March 4. Orders can be placed by emailing [email protected] with style/sizes, address, phone number, total price and method of payment. Checks should be made payable to Amanda Murphy and mailed to 19 Rosanne Drive, Conway, AR 72034.
