Arkansas broadcast icons lead fundraisers for Project Transformation

Two of Arkansas’s most recognizable and respected broadcast journalists headlined fundraising luncheons in April to benefit Project Transformation Arkansas (PTA).

and KD Reep at the Pine Bluff luncheon.

The nonprofit exceeded its fundraising goal of $20,000, raising more than $21,000 at the events. PTA is part of a national network that works to strengthen communities by addressing educational inequities through one-on-one literacy tutoring for children, summer day camps, and leadership development opportunities for college-age interns.

Award-winning FOX16 news anchor Donna Terrell served as a special guest in conversation with the Rev. Samantha (Sam) Meadors at the Pine Bluff luncheon on April 7, while longtime, retired KTHV Channel 11 anchor Craig O’Neill served as a featured speaker at the Little Rock luncheon on April 14. The luncheons were titled “Find Your Way.”

Both events highlighted the organization’s growing impact in Arkansas, particularly its summer and after-school programs that help elementary students in under-resourced communities improve reading skills, build confidence and develop a love of learning.

During the luncheons, Meadors, executive director of PTA, was presented with the inaugural Eric Lindh Award for Steadfast and Visionary Leadership. The award, named for the organization’s national founder and CEO, recognizes exceptional leadership within the Project Transformation network. Meadors was nominated by her peers.

Funds raised from the Pine Bluff and Little Rock events will help expand programming sites, support college-age interns who serve as mentors and tutors, and increase access to books and literacy resources for children and families across Arkansas.
