Annual cardboard boat race in Heber Springs

The 29th Annual World Championship Cardboard Boat Race will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at Dam Site Park in Heber Springs.

This year’s theme is “Flip Flops and Pop Tops.” Contestants of all ages will race their boats made entirely of cardboard over a 200-yard course. The Captain’s Award will be given to the most creative team and boat. Other awards include the Pride of the Fleet and Titanic awards. There will be youth and adult divisions with two categories in each division. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division.

Even if you don’t make a boat, come to Sandy Beach for a great day of family fun on the lake. Visit the teams and admire their boats while they are on shore, then cheer on your favorite as they race.

A watermelon eating contest begins at 11 a.m. For little ones, there is a Treasure Dig and other children’s activities. A six-person volleyball tournament begins at 10 a.m. For a registration form or more information, visit heber-springs.com.
