Add a little spring in your step

by Georgie McCarthy

Spring is so fresh and vibrant, whether that is because of the flowers beginning to bloom, the crisp air or the shiny, new trends coming off the runway and into stores. Winter, on the other hand, is usually when we tend to get stuck in a “fashion rut” or the cycle of boring grey sweater after boring grey sweater, but how can you take a little bit of those new spring trends and re-inspire yourself?

Right about now, you’re probably putting away those lackluster, itchy sweaters that kept you warm all winter, so this could be the perfect time to revamp your wardrobe and inject a little bit of that spring fun. I’ll let you in on the spring’s hottest trends and how to incorporate them with your personal style so that you will turn from grey and boring into the most fashion forward woman in the room.

This season, find inspiration in the season’s icon — flowers! Look out for floral embroidery, floral prints or bright colors to update your sad winter wardrobe. Floral patterns are a lasting spring tradition that will probably never fail to reappear year after year. They come in so many different styles and colors that you are sure to find one that suits your figure, skin tone and hair color.

On the flip side, embroidery is the trendiest way to add a little spring in your step this season. It’s easy to find tops with a touch of embroidery, but if you’re feeling a little braver, you can go all out with some embroidered denim, like mine.

Color wise, make sure you’re looking for light blues, pale/nude pinks and rich, mustard yellows. Think bluebells, peonies and sunflowers. Adding a little floral in your life will not only brighten your outfit, but if you’re anything like me, it might also just lighten your mood a little bit, too!

Spring/summer 2017 is also about embracing femininity. Anything with feminine frills or figure flattering corset-styles are a definite “yes.” News flash, ladies: fluted/bell sleeves are not staying in the 70s and might just be the easiest trend to try out. They may not be the most practical, but you’ll really make a statement in this throwback style. If you’re not looking to drag large sleeves through your spaghetti, a top with frilly details or a feminine, flattering shape might be a better option. The girly, frilled blouse hiding in your closet is waiting to reappear and make its spring debut, so embrace girl power and throw it on!

Here is a definitive list of spring/summer 2017 trends to look out for:

Embroidered anything!
Fluted/bell sleeves.
Frilled blouses and other feminine shapes.
Ankle boots and A-line skirts for a subtle 1960s vibe.
Gingham.
Colors like pastel blue, nude pink or mustard yellow.

This season, say “yes” to floral, say “yes” to feminine styles, and say “yes” to a little color. Put away your dreary grey sweaters and black jeans and try something a little more fun, and it might just brighten your outlook a little, too!
