A party for patriots

The Jacksonville Community Center was packed with patriotism on Saturday, March 21, when “A Night at the Victory Canteen” was hosted by The Jacksonville Museum of Military History.

For nearly 20 years, the annual fundraiser has benefited the museum, which opened its doors in May 2005 to share Arkansas’s rich military history. With a mission to foster an appreciation for service members and honor the freedom they preserve for the U.S., it’s a perfect place to visit this summer. As a Blue Star Museum, the museum is free for military families; otherwise, the entrance fee is nominal.

The event welcomed about 220 people and netted more than $15,000. The Tony Anderson Band performed, and a huge silent auction and a live auction were held. The emcee was John “Mickey” Spillane, an Air Force veteran. “This fundraiser would not be nearly as successful without the support of our board of directors, volunteers, service members and the community,” said Elizabeth Anderson, director of the museum since 2021.
