501DER WOMAN 2026: Vickey Kirkemier

For Vickey Kirkemier, caring for others has never been just a job, it’s the purpose she believes she was called to fulfill. After beginning her career as a certified nursing assistant, she quickly discovered that long-term care was where her heart belonged.

Four decades later, as administrator at Superior Health and Rehab, she has built a reputation fueled by trust and compassion. Known for bringing smiles to residents’ faces through joyful, engaging events and a warm family-like atmosphere, Kirkemier works every day to ensure that Superior feels like home for the people she serves. “The ability to support my friends and community on a daily basis is the most fulfilling part of what I do,” she said.

Her dedication has earned significant recognition, including 2018 Woman in Business, 2021 Business Executive, 2023 Power Woman and honors for Outstanding Leadership. She is also a 2025 Bronze Award Recipient from the American Health Care Association, reflecting her commitment to excellence for 40 years.

Despite the accolades, Kirkemier’s biggest motivation comes from making a difference in the community she calls home and her impact on the 501 is far from finished. “My greatest joy comes from mentoring young people,” she said. “By introducing them to long-term care, I am giving them an opportunity to build meaningful careers and change lives.”

At home, Kirkemier is supported by her husband, Steven, and their family: Brody Kirkemier; Kelsey and Andrew Robertson; Mallory and Dylan Venable; and grandchildren Blake, Hayes, and Cole. Their love and encouragement drive her to be a leader by example.

Her advice to younger women is simple, but powerful. “Show up, stay consistent, and treat people with respect,” she said. “Your reputation will open more doors than anything else. Once those doors open, be brave enough to walk through them.”
