Women's Shelter of Central Arkansas presents 'Risen from Silence'

“Risen from Silence” — presented by the Women’s Shelter of Central Arkansas — will feature a free acoustic concert by native Arkansan Elise Davis from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at The Brick Room, 1020 Front St. in Conway.

T.M. Hampton, a domestic violence survivor and author of “Second Chance,” will share her story and sign copies of her book.

Risen from Silence is designed to raise awareness of the importance of the women’s shelter and the prevalence of domestic violence. The Silent Witness awareness project will be on display and a silent auction will take place to raise funds for the shelter. Information about the shelter and how to volunteer or make contributions will also be available.

Admission is free but due to limited seating, the public is encouraged to reserve their tickets via EventBrite at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/4275907354/efblike. The option of making a small contribution for tickets is also available on the website.

Sponsorships for the event are available with one option that includes a pre-event with an opportunity to meet Davis and Hampton.

The Women’s Shelter of Central Arkansas has been providing assistance to victims of family violence in central Arkansas since 1995. What started as a volunteer information hotline has grown into a 24-hour-a-day, seven day a week hotline and shelter housing community members in need of safety. Over the past 12 years it has grown to include a sexual assault assistance/recovery program, support groups, transportation for clients and personal, legal and child advocacy programs.
