09 Nov 2013 White County reception for scholarship winners
It was a “night of celebration” as the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of White County Board of Directors recently recognized award recipients and donors.
KTHV Channel 11 anchor Craig O’Neill served as the master of ceremonies for the reception, held in the Founders Room at Harding University in Searcy.
A highlight of the evening was a keynote address by Gov. Mike Beebe, who was on hand to present Viki Vinson a scholarship from an endowment named in memory of his mother, Louise Beebe. “I was obviously touched and still am,” Beebe said of the gesture. “She would’ve been very proud.”
Dan Newsom, scholarship fund executive director, recognized donors, board members and guests.
He said since its inception in 1999, the organization has awarded 425 scholarships with a value of $221,927. Ninety percent of scholarship recipients complete their education.
