Water, glorious water

by Brenda McClain

Arkansans are fortunate to have their own well-spring of water in Central Arkansas in Mountain Valley Spring Water.

It was pharmacist Peter Greene and his brother, John, who bought Lockett Springs in 1871 and began selling mineral water under the name Mountain Valley Spring Water.

In 1894, Mountain Valley’s popularity and association with the boom of health spas in Hot Springs allowed Mountain Valley to expand distribution to the East Coast by way of Philadelphia. By 1908, franchise offices opened in Chicago and New York City.

In 1928, distribution began in California, making Mountain Valley the first bottled water to be available coast to coast.

Over the years, Mountain Valley has evolved to meet the changing marketplace. The greatest news is that everything about Mountain Valley Spring Water has stayed the same.

No sodium. Still naturally ionized. Still bottled at the original source.
