Ward Country Dance plans benefit

Ward Country Dance will host a benefit for rockabilly legend Sleepy LaBeef from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 19.

Sleepy was born in Smackover and wrote more than 600 songs for many different artists. The proceeds from the event will go to Sleepy, who has coronary issues, and his wife, who has liver cancer.

Entertainment will include Arkansas rockabilly legends Sonny Burgess and Jason D. Williams; saxophone player Ace Cannon; W.S. Holland, who played for Johnny Cash; Stan Perkins, the son of Carl Perkins; and J.M. Van Eaton, who played with Charlie Rich.

Sleepy is also planning on attending, and who knows who else might show up from Nashville!
