UCA's Carson selected as Player of the Week

The Missouri Valley Conference released on Tuesday its Player of the Week awards, and for the first time this season, the Central Arkansas Bears were represented. Junior Wes Carson was named the MVC’s Offensive Player of the Week on the back of a three-goal weekend.

Carson netted a pair of goals in the Conway Derby against Central Baptist on Friday night, opening the scoring by closing out a string of passes from William Woody and Greg Jacobus with a header for his first goal of the season. In the 80th minute, the Fort Smith native showed an impressive amount of touch, as he volleyed home a long forward pass from Colton Jackson for the game-winner.

Carson scored the game’s first goal against Incarnate Word on Sunday, collecting a pass from Pepe San Roman in the box and slamming it home from five yards out.

Carson’s multi-goal game against the Mustangs on Friday night was the first of his career.

“Wes has proven that he can score goals at the Division I level,” said Central Arkansas head coach Ross Duncan. “It came easy to him during his freshman year, and he had a bit of a struggle last season. Now that he’s in his junior year and maturing into a veteran player, he’s using his movement, experience and energy to create goals for himself. It’s a matter of hard work for him, but he’s up to the challenge, so I’m excited to see what comes next.”

Carson and the Bears return to action at 7 p.m. Saturday, playing host to the UMKC Kangaroos at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex.
