CONWAY — The Central Arkansas tennis team opened ASUN conference play with a tough weekend on the road, falling 6-1 to Stetson last Friday before narrowly dropping a 4-3 decision to FGCU on Sunday.

Against Stetson, the Sugar Bears fought hard but struggled to gain momentum. The lone point for UCA came from the Vimuktananda/Miyakwa and Kazama/Shigemasu in doubles play, securing a hard-fought victory. Despite the final score, several matches were tightly contested, showcasing UCA’s resilience.
The Sugar Bears bounced back with a stronger performance against FGCU, pushing the Eagles to the wire in a 4-3 loss. UCA picked up key singles wins from Vimuktananda and Park, while the doubles pair of Vimuktananda/Miyakawa and Kazama/Shigemasu secured a victory to set the tone early. The match came down to the final singles showdown, but FGCU ultimately clinched the win.
UCA looks to regroup and build on this experience as they prepare for their matches this weekend at North Alabama and Lipscomb.
