CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame will induct eight new members this fall into the Class of 2024.
The newest class includes Kenneth Allen, Kasey Britt, Verna Curry, Morgan Gilbert, Damien Land, Ricky Richardson, Robert Tate and Genai Walker.
Allen was a two-time NAIA All-American in outdoor track and field and still holds a pair of school records in the mile relay and 4×110 yard relay, both set back in 1975.
Curry was a two-time NAIA All-American sprinter running alongside Allen on the record-setting relay teams, including a mile relay team that finished second at the NAIA National Championship in 1979.
Britt, a softball star on the field and in the classroom, was a two-time All-Region selection and set numerous school records during her career from 2009-12, including home runs, doubles and runs batted in.
Gilbert is a high school coaching legend in the state of Arkansas, having won 1,077 basketball games and 1,034 baseball games over a 49-year coaching career, 40 of those years at Tuckerman High School. He is a member of the National High School Hall of Fame.
Land was an All-American defensive back in 1998 and holds the school record for interceptions returned for touchdowns with four among his 13 career interceptions.
Richardson was a record-setting distance runner for the Bears. He won two AIC cross country individual titles and set the state record in the two-mile run, among his many career achievements.
Tate was a first-team NAIA All-American as a defensive back for the Bears in 1989, and was a two-time All-AIC selection who played on four consecutive AIC championship teams.
Walker was a three-time All-Gulf South Conference selection in women’s basketball and is the No. 3 all-time rebounder in school history, and also holds the single-game record of 26 rebounds against West Florida in 2001.
The Class of 2024 will be inducted at a brunch in the Student Center Ballroom on Saturday, Oct. 12 prior to the Bears’ home football game with West Georgia.
