04 Mar 2018 UCA Day of Giving March 8
The University of Central Arkansas has set Thursday, March 8, as the date for its Fourth Annual Day of Giving – a 24-hour fundraising drive in which alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends are challenged to make a gift of any amount to support students, campus and the community.
This year’s goal is $50,000.
Donors are encouraged to choose specific funds among the categories of student, campus and community impact. For the list of funds, visit uca.edu/dayofgiving.
In 2017, UCA raised $41,504.80, marking a third consecutive year increase in money raised.
“This special day allows members of the community to give to the schools, departments, projects or initiatives that are most meaningful to them,” said Haley Fowler, director of Annual Giving.
“We want to make a big impact in 24 hours. We want to grant students opportunities that will make lasting impressions on their experience at UCA and their future,” added Fowler. “Day of Giving will touch all aspects of campus life.”
Donations toward student impact funds will provide scholarships to students in financial need and student-athletes, as well as funds for student support services such as the Bear Essentials Food Pantry and Greek organizations.
Campus impact includes funds for faculty and student research projects, as well as service-learning opportunities, scholarships and state-of-the-art equipment.
Community impact funds offer experiential opportunities, as well as guest lecturers, first-class exhibits and performances on campus that are available to the larger communities of Conway, Faulkner County and Central Arkansas. This includes Reynolds Performance Hall events, Outreach and Community Engagement programs, Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre and the Conductor, for example.
Many departments also have identified challenge matches that can be unlocked on this day.
“Our development staff continues to come up with great ways to engage our constituency, and Day of Giving is the latest example of their creativity and hard work,” said Dr. Kale Gober, vice president of University Advancement. “We’re setting a high bar this year, but we are confident that our alumni and friends will respond in a big way.”
The UCA Student Government Association and Association of Future Alumni will host a centralized donation station at the entrance to the Student Center on campus. They will be collecting donations and celebrating Day of Giving and the impact it has on students.
By giving online at uca.edu/dayofgiving and sharing the excitement with #UCADayofGiving on social media, donors may help spread the word and increase participation.
