03 Oct 2012 UCA Baseball hosts Ontario Blue Jays
The University of Central Arkansas Bears will host the Ontario Blue Jays in their Fall International Game on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Bear Stadium. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. with free admission.
The Blue Jays are one of Canada’s top amateur baseball programs and will be making a swing through the states for several exhibition games.
“It’s big for our program for recruiting purposes,’ said UCA head coach Allen Gum. “There is a really large talent pool up there and this lets those guys come in here and see our facilities and how we do things at UCA.
“This team comes down and plays SEC teams and Big 12 teams. We’re excited that they are coming here to our campus. This will be a great experience for our players. It will give our guys a break from the grind of fall practice and let them play someone in a different colored jersey.”
The Bears, who made their first trip to the Southland Conference tournament last spring, will play their annual Fall World Series beginning Friday, Oct. 19. The 2013 season opener is set for Friday, Feb. 15, against Murray State at Bear Stadium.
