27 May 2013 UACCM purchases land for expansion
The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has taken its first big step toward expanding its campus westward in anticipation of constructing a new workforce training center.
The college recently purchased 7.87 acres of land, located on the northeast corner of Poor Farm Road and University Boulevard, from Bob Coffman.
The property is within the planning boundaries of the UACCM campus and is the expected site of the planned facility.
UACCM Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis and Vice Chancellor for Administration Dr. Linda Birkner had been working on the purchase for quite some time, but the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees officially approved the purchase Feb. 1 in Little Rock. Coffman and UACCM closed on the property April 11 to complete the transaction.
“This land purchase is another step toward the success of our capital campaign,” said Davis. “It’s exciting to know that one day soon our workforce training center will sit there.”
The new building will house several existing technical programs, a new industrial mechanics program and workforce services.
“Everyone should be thrilled with what’s happening at UACCM,” Coffman stated about the college’s plans for his former property. “It’s something that will pay off for years and years.”
Students come to UACCM from many counties in Central Arkansas to get a quality, affordable education. As the college continues to grow, new programs and training opportunities are added to better equip its students to enter the workforce. This new facility will present even more avenues for growth and expansion that will provide enhanced educational offerings at UACCM well into the future.
